Aim

Introduction to mathematical concepts and methods essential for applications in geodesy and geoinformatics.

Outcome

Student will understand the essence of statistical concepts and methods and he/she will be qualified for proper selection and application of statistical methods depending on the area of a research. The student will be able to  independently study the literature that imply the application of statistical methods in order to use it his/her scientific work.

Contents

The right choice of statistical tests applicable in geodesy, random tests, tests based on ranks. The power of the test.Regression models (single and multiple regression, linear and nonlinear models, linearization models), Monte-Carlo methods (simulation tests), Dispersion analysis (single and multifactorial). Design of experiments. The method of least squares, generalized least squares method. Multivariate analysis.Principal component analysis.Statistical software in the software package R.
